Here it is again yet it stings like the first time. *

The Hurricanes are slowly moving back into lovable loser mode. I should be used to this by now. My affection towards teams desperate to capture their once but fleeting glory is steeped in history. There was the New York Mets whose futility was capped by trading it's last remnant of success for Jeff Kent. There was Baseball in general whose post canceled world series steroid fueled home run derby was not enough to fully reengage my interest. There were the cubs, who were always one Vance Law hit away from undeniable joy. And now for the second time in a row the canes experience famine for several years following a feast at the contest for lord Stanley's Cup.

I saw the Hurricanes lose to the NY Rangers Tuesday. I wrote a song about it. Wanna hear it? Well, here it go.

The Good:
  • Hmmm ... brief signs of life scattered through skating in quicksand.
  • Ruutu continues to impress. I hope he can do this with the canes for more than one season.
The Bad:
  • Staal is getting bottled up. We need another scoring threat on his line or teams will just key their defensive efforts toward shutting him down.
Stats of interest.
  • The Hurricanes have 51 points of a possible 98 for around 52% of the possible points they could have attained.
  • The maximum number of points the Hurricanes can obtain now is 117.
  • The total number of goals allowed this season is 145 which yields an average of 2.9 goals a night.
  • The total number of goals scored is 123 which yields an average of 2.5 goals a night.
  • The Hurricanes are in third place in the South East Division behind the Florida Panthers by one point and ahead of the Tampa Bay Lighting by seven points.
  • The Hurricanes are in tenth place in the conference one point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins and seven points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
I'm up to 15.02 Miles on the elliptical. w00t!

Anger is a gift

... or at least it used to be. Since I've passed the age Mendoza line it is more an unfortunate consequence of a lack of sleep combined with stress. I hear patience was a virtue at one point also. (that last line was a little inside)

The artist known as Kevin Mellon blogged about his unfortunate shift from twenty something to old. Welcome to my demographic sir. In his post he added a little RATM and it kind of sparked me to run through the high points of their catalog. Much as I love it, I'm just not that angry anymore. Color me fat and happy. Well, mostly fat.

On to less sardonic commentary on the bright spots in life.

I just finished the first Age of Bronze Trade by Eric Shanower. It was a good read and if you have any interest in Greek mythology it would probably hold your interest.

The first issue of Incognito by Ed Brubaker was fantastic. It feels a lot like Sleeper and Criminal. If you have missed either of series go get the trades, please.

I'm up to 11.23 Miles on the elliptical. HUUURRRAAAAAYYYYY FOR MMMMMEEEEEE!

Something for your consideration. Barring any unforeseen issues I hope some of you will wish Trina and I well on September 9th as we do our part for Americas wedding industry and spend our way out of this recession by getting hitched. Marriage tax here we come. More on this as things develop.

And let me close by reminding you we are all one ill timed flying knee away from close inspection of the canvass, so keep that chin tucked in, keep one foot on the ground and stick to the game plan.

P.S. Obligatory Augie Pics

Good Grief

Well I just had the misfortune of spending twenty minutes of my morning fast forwarding through the canes fifth loss in a row.

Not much to say other than the boys look old and we are not catching any breaks or making any breaks for themselves.

The Good:
  • Well, they didn't get blanked at least.
The Bad:
  • Five in a row and counting.
Stats of interest.
  • The Hurricanes have 47 points of a possible 96 for around 49% of the possible points they could have attained.
  • The maximum number of points the Hurricanes can obtain now is 119.
  • The total number of goals allowed this season is 141 which yields an average of 3.1 goals a night.
  • The total number of goals scored is 110 which yields an average of 2.5 goals a night.
  • The Hurricanes are in third place in the South East Division behind the Florida Panthers by two points and ahead of the Tampa Bay Lighting by nine points.
  • The Hurricanes are in 10th place in the conference one point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins and six points ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I've been rereading The Watchmen and listening to Comic Geek Speaks podcasts for each issue. I'm pretty excited for the movie.

I'm up to 6.78 Miles on the elliptical. I need to keep that going.

Give me a moment *

This is why I like the Bouncing Souls. The Souls are releasing a new song at the first of every month this year to celebrate their twenty fifth anniversary. The first song is pretty good.

Monday the Gladiators dropped yet another contest. I was able to play forward for the second consecutive game. It is fun to play a little more offense than I usually do. I had to solid chance in front of the net but I have absolutely no puck handling skills and both times the Goalie did a good job closing his five hole. I had fun playing in front of the net. I doubled some guy over who tried to clear me out. That was fun. I'm usually the clearer not the clear.

I've logged 3.68 Miles on the elliptical. New start for a new year. I hope I can keep that going a little longer this year.

The Good:
  • Everyone is healthy and they seem to be playing with a little more umph.
The Bad:
  • Lost to Florida
Stats of interest.
  • The Hurricanes have 47 points of a possible 84 for around 56% of the possible points they could have attained.
  • The maximum number of points the Hurricanes can obtain now is 130.
  • The total number of goals allowed this season is 122 which yields an average of 2.9 goals a night. Ughhhh.
  • The total number of goals scored is 110 which yields an average of 2.6 goals a night. Accckkkkk.
  • The Hurricanes are in second place in the South East Division behind the Washington Capitals by ten points and ahead of the Florida Panthers by three points.
  • The Hurricanes are in 8th place in the conference tied with the Buffalo Sabers and three points ahead of the Florida Panthers.
